Social Responsibility

Since 2021, Bryant Alsop have been a corporate sponsor of the PukaUp Ride - this year a 311.4km ride over 3 days in acknowledgement of the 3,114 people who died by suicide in 2021 with 8.6 Australians dying by suicide every day – more than double the national road toll for the same year.

Led by Director Richard Bryant and in alignment with his involvement with the Architect’s Mental Health & Wellbeing Forum through the Association of Consulting Architects; as a practice we believe that addressing the mental health needs of our staff, their families and friends is vitally important, and that the work PukaUp do and their involvement in the development of their “Foundations of Wellbeing” program with the University of Melbourne and allfie is a really positive action in addressing this issue. In their words:

Founded by former AFL footballer Wayne Schwass, PukaUp is an organisation Bryant Alsop is proud to be associated with and we (Richard, that is) look forward to many km ahead on the bike!

PukaUp is a cause-driven organisation, here to achieve our vision of ending suicide. As mental health advocates and storytellers, we believe education and facilitating open conversations about mental and emotional wellbeing is the key to keeping people healthy and ultimately preventing suicide. We work in the prevention, rather than the crisis space for a very important reason: we don't believe that people should become unwell, or reach crisis point, before taking control of their wellbeing.

Giving Back

Commencing July 01 2023, Bryant Alsop has established a fund totalling 1% of our gross income to be distributed to chosen charities & organisations who reflect our values across three key areas:

  • Mental Health & Wellbeing

  • Indigenous support

  • Sustainability

As a small practice, we believe that this is an industry leading example of contributing to causes and organisations who give back to their communities.

Parental Leave

2024 saw the implementation of our Parental Leave policy. We acknowledge the challenges faced by parents in the profession and to help support our staff we provide staff on parental leave:

  • Superannuation for up to 52 weeks

  • Accrual of long service leave for up to 52 weeks

As a smaller practice, we believe these decisions will help support young parents and provide long term equality.

Community Responsibility

Bryant Alsop acknowledges that our staff are a part of a broader local community - not just the Bryant Alsop community. We ask our team to think beyond their own framework and consider ways in which they can contribute to the physical/social/mental wellbeing of those in need.

To enable this community support, we offer our staff 3 days paid community leave annually to spend time doing volunteer work for a charity.

Staff Wellbeing

The wellbeing of our staff is central to the success of our business and delivering positive outcomes for our clients. We have a dedicated Employee Assistance Programme accessible 24/7 by our staff and their immediate families.

Whilst our doors are open from 8:30am - 6:00pm we understand that life sometimes throws a curveball! So we show flexibility whether it’s dropping a child at school or needing to take a pet to the vet.

We also provide staff up to an additional 5 days annual leave spread across the months that don’t have Public Holidays - the benefit of a long weekend every month of the year1

Environmental Responsibilty

Our team has taken the first steps to becoming fully certified as carbon neutral. Beyond being mindful of the impact decisions made in our work, we have now offset the CO2 emissions produced from our operations through carbon offsets accredited under the VERRA Verified Carbon Standard. Our purchased credits go towards a project that aims to protect forests in the Municipality of Lábrea, a region of the Amazon Biome with one of the highest rates of deforestation.
